The green olive “Nocellara del Belice D.O.P.” – also known as Castelvetrano olive, is a typical Sicilian olive with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of the European Union. It was born in the province of Trapani, between Partanna, Castelvetrano and Campobello di Mazara.
The Mediterranean breeze promotes the growth of a vigorous growing plant and a robust olive. It is the Sicilian olive par excellence. According to the book “Olive Oil” by Charles Quest-Ritson, Sicily would in fact be one of the best regions in the world for the production of olives (and far superior to the Tuscan ones if you consider the price-quality ratio). The Nocellara olive, with its rounded shape and its intense green color, follows the typical tradition of manual harvesting in Sicily – to preserve its full quality. This contributes to making a bite of a Nocellara olive like being transported to another time… to a more genuine era. So much so that many call them the “best olives in the world”.
