Limoncello di Sorrento I.G.P. (PGI)

Respect for traditional principles is the basis for the cultivation of lemons on the Sorrento peninsula, a typical product, unique in Italy and in the world, which has been awarded the Protected Geographical Indication I.G.P., an important guarantee of the quality of the raw material from which it comes

It is an oval, medium-sized lemon, with a particularly juicy, straw-yellow pulp and a peel with a very special scent due to the richness of the essential oils it contains. It is grown under the supervision of the “Consorzio del Limone di Sorrento I.G.P.” from Vico Equense to Massa Lubrense in areas overlooking the sea, rich in volcanic elements, according to the traditional method of “pergolas” and “straws”. No chemical products are used on the fruit, which, by depositing on the peel, would alter the taste and aroma of the products obtained from it.

On the Sorrento peninsula, the production of lemon liqueur dates back to ancient times and is still carried out today with a processing system that preserves the artisanal and traditional methods of the area that have been handed down to this day. Since 1986, PIEMME has been the undisputed leader in the production of Limoncello, which can rightly be called the gold of Sorrento.

The lemons of Sorrento are harvested strictly by hand to avoid damaging the fruit and are subjected to a series of processes intended to produce the Limoncello, which PIEMME carries out in-house.

In fact, the infusion phase in pure alcohol and beet sugar (without additives, syrups or sweeteners), the extraction of the peels from the containers (where the precious infusion remains) and the bottling are carried out in about 4-7 days, in the internal laboratory of PIEMME, a true bastion of craftsmanship but characterized by technological innovation and rigorous quality controls.
